Hiring a web developer in Indonesia works well remotely if you settle four things up front: the price in Indonesian Rupiah, how you will pay, how you will work across the time difference, and who owns the code once it is paid for. Indonesian studios generally price below Western agencies, communicate in English, and work in a time zone that overlaps much of Asia-Pacific. The risks are the usual ones for remote work and are solved with documents, not meetings.
We are a small studio based in Tulungagung, East Java, so this guide uses our own terms as a concrete example.
What does a website cost in Indonesia?
Prices vary widely between freelancers and agencies. As one reference point, these are PintuWeb's packages, all in IDR and including design, build and the first year of domain and hosting:
| Package | Price (IDR) | Turnaround |
|---|---|---|
| Landing Page | IDR 100,000 – IDR 500,000 | 1–2 working days |
| Small Business Standard (3–5 pages) | IDR 500,000 – IDR 1,500,000 | 2–3 working days |
| Full Online Store | IDR 3,000,000 – IDR 10,000,000+ | 5–8 working days |
| Online Booking System | IDR 1,500,000 – IDR 5,000,000 | 1–2 weeks |
| Custom Website | Priced to your needs · free consultation | 1–3 weeks, depending on features |
Use your bank's or a reputable converter's current rate rather than any figure printed in an article; exchange rates move. Every package is on the pricing page, and what drives the price up or down is explained in website cost in Indonesia.
How does the time difference work?
Under a 1987 presidential decree, Java, Sumatra and West and Central Kalimantan run on Western Indonesia Time (WIB, UTC+7); Bali is an hour ahead on Central Indonesia Time (WITA, UTC+8). Indonesia does not use daylight saving time. From WIB, roughly:
| Where you are | Time difference from WIB |
|---|---|
| Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Perth | WIB is 1 hour behind |
| Sydney, Melbourne | WIB is 3–4 hours behind, depending on Australian daylight saving |
| London | WIB is 6–7 hours ahead, depending on UK summer time |
| New York | WIB is 11–12 hours ahead, depending on US daylight saving |
With Asia-Pacific the working days largely overlap. With Europe and the Americas, a handover rhythm works better: you review the preview at the end of your day and send one consolidated list, and the developer picks it up at the start of theirs. Our working hours are on the contact page.
Who owns the website when it is finished?
Get this in writing. Indonesia's Copyright Law (Law No. 28 of 2014) lists computer programs among protected works, and Article 36 states that, unless agreed otherwise, the creator and copyright holder of a work made on commission is the party that made it. Article 16 allows copyright to be transferred, among other ways, by written agreement. Without one, the client's position is weaker than many assume.
Ask for wording that covers the domain (registered in your name), the source code, hosting access and every login, and when they transfer. This is general information, not legal advice; for a large contract, have a lawyer review it.
At PintuWeb, after the final payment you receive the source code, admin access, hosting and domain access and every credential. The exceptions are stated in our terms: invitation themes from our gallery stay on a personal link for 12 months, and the Website Design Concepts package grants the right to use the design, not the code.
How do you pay an Indonesian developer?
Ask before you start. Methods differ: freelancers on international marketplaces are paid through the platform, while many small studios invoice in IDR and take local methods only. PintuWeb accepts QRIS, bank transfer, DANA, SeaBank and USDT (for USDT, the network and wallet address are on the invoice), so make sure one of those works for you before we start. Whatever the method:
- Pay a deposit, not the full amount, up front. We take 50% to start and 50% once the website is finished and you approve it.
- Pay only against an invoice that names the business and the account.
- Agree on currency and who covers transfer fees before the first payment.
How do you vet a developer you cannot meet?
- Open live work. Mockup images prove little; live sites show speed, mobile layout and attention to detail. Test them with PageSpeed Insights. We keep 73 live demos in our demo gallery.
- Ask for a written quote with features, price, schedule, revisions and exclusions.
- Ask what year two costs. Domain and hosting renewal is a recurring cost; ours is roughly IDR 300,000–500,000 a year for a website.
- Check the guarantee. We fix bugs free of charge for 30 days after launch.
- Watch for red flags: full payment before any design, refusal to put ownership in writing, a domain registered in the developer's name, or no traceable business details.

Frequently asked questions
Do Indonesian web developers work in English?
Many do. PintuWeb works in Indonesian, English and Malay over WhatsApp and email.
Can I hire an Indonesian studio for a website aimed at customers outside Indonesia?
Yes. The site can be built in the language your customers read; the price and process stay the same. Our own demos are in Indonesian, but client sites are built in whatever language they need.
Is a contract with an Indonesian studio enforceable?
That depends on the contract and the jurisdictions involved, which is a question for a lawyer. In practice, staged payments, a written quote and clear ownership wording protect both sides far more than the choice of law.
How long does a project take?
At PintuWeb from 1–2 working days for a landing page to 1–3 weeks, depending on features for a custom website, counted from when the content is complete. See how long it takes to build a website.
